Coming Soon: 24 Hour Policing in Beaumont

I don't think that many people have noticed this, but in the 2023 budget deliberations, Beaumont Council committed to having a 24 police presence here. Two additional RCMP officers are needed, beyond those already deployed, to meet the threshold set by the RCMP for a police detachment to maintain a 24 hour presence. And these extra officers have already been requested.

However, it may take up to two years for the RCMP to allocate and deploy those new officers. Since we do not pay for police officers until they are actually deployed here, the extra expense for them was not funded in the 2023 budget. But that expense will need to be funded when those new officers finally do arrive in 2024 or 2025 and then annually afterwards.
